RICHMOND, Ky.
– Head coach Melissa Barnes released the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team's 2014 schedule on Tuesday.

The Colonels will open the fall season on August 22 at Western Carolina before playing their home opener two days later against Alabama A&M, a team they defeated on the road, 3-2, last season.

After a tough stretch of three consecutive road games at Evansville (August 31), Cincinnati (September 5) and Ohio (September 7), EKU returns home to host UNC Asheville on September 12 and Marshall on September 14.

The Colonels then close out the non-conference season in the Buckeye State, playing Cleveland State on September 19 and Kent State on September 21.

"Our goal each year in non-conference games is to best prepare ourselves for conference play, and our 2014 schedule will certainly accomplish this task," Barnes said.

Eastern opens OVC play on the road at Austin Peay on September 26; however, the Colonels will close the regular season with three straight home conference games, the last of which will be against in-state rival and 2013 OVC Tournament champion Morehead State on October 31.

"The Ohio Valley Conference continues to improve each year and this fall that trend is sure to continue," Barnes added.

The OVC Tournament will be held November 6-9.

First team All-OVC defender Paige Larkin and All-OVC Newcomer Cassie Smith return to lead the Colonels in 2014.
