WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team opened its fall schedule this weekend at the Purdue Fall Invitational. Almost 20 teams from around the region took part in the very competitive tournament.
Sophomores
Diego Asis and
Sebastian Mueller each notched three singles victories. Mueller won three consecutive matches in straight sets to advance to the finals of the Flight G bracket. In the championship match, Mueller dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Western Michigan's Jimmy Beckwith.
Asis lost his opening match before regrouping to win three straight in the consolation bracket. In Asis' first two wins, he had to rally from one set down to earn the victory. The sophomore cruised in the consolation finals over Valparaiso's Hickey, 6-1, 6-4.
Meanwhile, senior
Daridge Saidi and junior
Florian Graskamp both went 2-1 in their respective singles matches.
In doubles, junior
Alex Alvaro and senior
Juanjo de la Llera teamed up to post a 2-1 record in the Flight A bracket.
Eastern Kentucky returns to action the first weekend of October at the Chattanooga Fall Invitational.
