RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University sophomore guard
Michaela Hunter has been named the National Mid-Major Women's Basketball Player of the Week by
College Sports Madness.
Hunter averaged 29.0 points-per-game in EKU's two road victories over Murray State and Tennessee Tech last weekend. The Mt. Vernon, Kentucky native poured in a career-high 40 points – including a coast-to-coast, game-tying layup at the end of regulation – to lead the Colonels to a thrilling, 97-93 win over TTU in double-overtime on Saturday night.
She played all 50 minutes of the marathon game and added five rebounds and four assists.
On Thursday at Murray State, Hunter scored 18 points and pulled down eight boards in the Colonels' 64-59 win over the Racers.
Hunter now ranks fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring at 15.6 points-per-game. She also ranks fourth in three-point field goal percentage (39.4), 13
th in assists-per-game (2.6) and 12
th in steals-per-game (1.4).
College Sports Madness named Kansas forward Chelsea Gardner the National Player of the Week and Milwaukee forward Ashley Green the High-Major Player of the Week.
Hunter and the Colonels return to action on Wednesday when they travel to play Jacksonville State at 12:00 p.m. ET.
