Live stats available for Friday's match at SIUE. Women | MenRICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's tennis teams conclude the regular season this weekend with OVC matches at SIUE on Friday and Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
Both teams are still in contention for the Ohio Valley Conference regular season titles. The women (12-7, 7-1 OVC) are currently in a four-way tie for first place in the loss column with Murray State, SIUE and Eastern Illinois. If the Colonels win both matches this weekend, they will lock up at least a share of the league title and a first-round bye in next weekend's OVC Tournament.
Seniors
Amandine Faouzi (No. 1),
Kristina Labeja (No. 2) and
Marcela Jimenez (No. 4) have each won seven OVC singles matches. Labeja has won 10 straight matches overall and is a perfect 7-0 against league opponents this year.
On the men's (14-7, 6-1) side, tournament seeding is still up in the air for the Colonels. If EKU wins its two matches and Tennessee Tech downs Austin Peay, the Colonels will end up in a three-way tie for the regular season title. Eastern's lone OVC loss came at Austin Peay on March 28.
Sophomore
Diogo Soares (No. 4) has won three consecutive matches and is tied for the team lead with 12 singles dual victories in 2015. Senior
Juanjo de la Llera (No. 6) is 6-0 in OVC singles matches and has won five of those contests in straight sets.
Both the men and women have won four OVC regular season titles under head coach
Rob Oertel since 2009. The men won four straight titles from 2009 to 2012 while the women won in 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
