RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU men's tennis team defeated two top-25 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics teams with wins over Lindsey Wilson College and Cumberland University (Tenn.) Friday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
 
The Colonels (5-6) started hot and never slowed down on their way to convincing 7-0 wins in each match.
 
Alex Álvaro and Ramon van Flymen took down the doubles duo from nearby Columbia, Kentucky, 6-3, in their first match as the nation's 58th ranked doubles team to give Friday's first match to the Colonels. Their ranking marks the highest ranking for the EKU program in its history.
 
Sebastian Mueller and Diego Asis, along with Diogo Soares and Guillem Sanchis cruised to 6-1 wins in doubles play, as the Colonels took the point and the indecisive third doubles match for good measure.
 
The EKU lineup decisively won Friday's early match, closing out singles play in similar suit. Indra Patwardhan held off Lindsey Wilson's Javier Raya at No. 6 singles to give the Colonels a 7-0 victory.
 
The momentum carried into Friday's second match, as EKU lost just five combined games in doubles play. The Colonels secured the doubles point early, taking the first two matches 6-1 each.
 
Álvaro and Patwardhan added a 6-3 win at No. 3 spot heading into singles play.
 
It was all EKU, as the Colonels picked up their second win of the day to move to 5-6 on the season. EKU hosts Xavier University and the University of the Cumberlands Feb.19 at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
