RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU men's tennis team blanked visiting Austin Peay State University, 7-0, on Friday in the Ohio Valley Conference opener at Tom Higgins Court.
 
EKU (11-9) controlled the match early on its way to a dominating 7-0 win.
 
Diogo Soares and Indra Patwardhan's win at No. 3 doubles gave the Colonels their first of two wins needed in a conclusive 6-1 win. Ramon van Flymen and Alex Álvaro, the nation's 53rd ranked duo, added a 6-3 win at No. 1, as the Colonels acquired the doubles' point.
 
EKU clutched all six singles matches, as the defending OVC season and tournament champions are off to a 1-0 start in conference play.
 
Florian Graskamp, Sebastian Mueller and Álvaro's wins solidified the EKU win, before Guillem Sanchis, Soares and van Flymen added victories for good measure.
 
The Colonels continue OVC play on Saturday against Murray State. Saturday's match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
