NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky will play its sixth game of the season against a top-15 ranked opponent when the Colonels play at No. 11 Vanderbilt on Wednesday.
The first pitch at Hawkins Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will air live on the SEC Network+.
EKU (6-11) has faced No. 5 Kentucky, No. 13 Louisville and played three games at No. 15 Virginia. The Colonels beat the Cavaliers, 7-6, in the series opener.
Vanderbilt is 12-4 overall, but just 2-3 in its last five games. Over the weekend, the Commodores went 2-1 on a trip to California. Vandy lost at Long Beach State (4-3) before beating UCLA (6-3) and Texas Christian (7-4). Vanderbilt is 9-1 this season at home.
Eastern Kentucky is coming off a 7-5 win at Western Kentucky on Tuesday. The Colonels never trailed in the game.
Daniel McFarland finished 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Cornell Nixon drove in three runs.
Daniel Harris IV scored twice and drove in a run.
Chris Botsoe hit his first home run of the season.
Aaron Ochsenbein retired the side in order in the ninth, including two strike outs, to pick up his first save of the season.
Botsoe leads the team with 15 RBIs. Shortstop
Ryland Kerr has a team-best .328 average and leads Eastern with 13 runs scored. Harris is hitting .309 and has scored 10 runs.
The pitching match-up will feature EKU junior right-hander
Kaven Brown against Vanderbilt freshman lefty Jake Eder. Brown is 0-1 with a 7.59 ERA. Eder carries a 1-0 record and a 2.57 ERA. He has struck out 16 in 14 innings of work.
The Commodore offense is led by the trio of Austin Martin, JJ Bleday and Pat DeMarco. Martin is hitting .404, has seven stolen bases and has scored 14 runs. Bleday sports a .395 average with 10 runs scored and three home runs. DeMarco is hitting .375 with 14 RBIs and 15 runs.
