EKU Baseball Takes On In-State Rival Western Kentucky At Home

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The baseball team welcomes in-state rival Western Kentucky to Earle Combs Stadium Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
The Colonels (9-15, 2-4 OVC) are coming off a weekend series win against rival Morehead State. The Hilltoppers (12-12, 3-3 C-USA) are coming off a series win against Rice University.  
 
EKU's offense is led by Ryland Kerr and Alex Holderbach. Kerr is batting a team-high .323, with nine doubles, two triples, and eight RBIs. Holderbach is hitting .302 to go with two doubles, a team-high four home runs and 21 RBIs.  
 
WKUs offense is led by Steven Craft and Jacob Rhinesmith. Craft is hitting a team-high .373 with six doubles and 17 RBIs. Rhinesmith has a .340 batting-average with two doubles, two triples, to go along with a team-high eight home runs and 23 RBIs.  
 
Will Brian will take the mound for the Colonels on Tuesday. Brian is 2-1 on the year with a 4.91 ERA and 11 strikeouts over 14 and two-thirds inning. This will be Brian's ninth appearance and his third start as a Colonel.
 
When these two teams met on March 13 in Bowling Green, Eastern beat Western, 7-5. The Colonels broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the top of the fourth.  All five runs were scored with two outs in the inning.  Daniel Harris IV drew a bases load walk to score Holderbach.  Daniel McFarland followed with a two-run single to left center.  Cornell Nixon capped the inning with a double down the left field line that scored two more runs and made it a 6-1 game.
 
McFarland finished 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Brian earned the win after tossing three innings, allowing one run on three hits and walking two batters.
 
Eastern Kentucky hits the road this weekend when the Colonels travel to Martin, Tennessee to take on the University of Tennessee at Martin for a three-game conference series. The first game is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.
