Eastern Kentucky Baseball Returns Home To Take On Western Carolina

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The baseball team returns home to start a four-game home-stand when the Colonels welcome the Catamounts of Western Carolina University to Earle Combs Stadium Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Head Coach Edwin Thompson will be coaching the game barefoot to raise awareness for Samaritan's Feet, a non-profit organization that provides shoes to children that need them.
 
The Colonels (26-26, 15-12 OVC) are coming off a weekend series against 22nd ranked Tennessee Tech. The Catamounts (7-42, 5-19 SoCon) are coming off a weekend series against Samford University. They took one-of-three against the Bulldogs
 
EKU's offense is led by Alex Holderbach and Tyler Romanik. Holderbach is batting a team-high .367, with 10 doubles, two triples, and a team-best 17 home runs and 70 RBIs. He leads the country in RBIs, while also ranking second in the OVC in home runs and first in slugging percentage. Romanik is hitting at a .349 clip to go along with nine doubles, one triple, seven home runs, and 35 RBIs.  
 
WCU's offense is led by Spencer Holcomb and Justice Bigbie. Holcomb is hitting a team-high .347 with 11 doubles, six home runs, and 21 RBIs. Bigbie has a .342 batting average with a team-high 12 doubles, one triple, five home runs, and a team leading 44 RBIs.  
 
The Colonel offense has been causing problems all year as they rank first in the conference and 11th in the nation in stolen bases, and 11th in the country and fourth in the conference in runs scored on the year. Eastern Kentucky ranks third in the conference and eighth nationally in hits. To go along with having the third best batting average in the conference, which ranks 22nd in the country.
 
Kaven Brown will get the nod for the Colonels on Tuesday. Brown is 4-2 on the year with a 6.32 ERA, he has struck out 37 batters over 47 innings pitched. Western Carolina has not named a starter for the game.
 
Eastern Kentucky finishes out the regular season when the Colonels welcome Southeast Missouri to Earle Combs Stadium for a three-game series starting Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
