BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University's David Bascuñana and Yoshua Reed have been named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Bascuñana earned Male Track Athlete of the Week honors after winning the 5,000 meters on Saturday at Marshall's Thundering Herd Invitational in Huntington, West Virginia. The senior from Ciudad Real, Spain cruised to victory with an OVC-best time of 14:31.3. He beat his nearest competitor by 15 seconds. His time of 14:31.3 is currently 39th fastest in the country.

Bascuñana was a first team All-OVC cross country performer last fall, finishing fourth overall at the OVC Championships in November. He helped lead the Colonels to a 16th place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Reed was named Male Field Athlete of the Week after winning the heptathlon at the Thundering Herd Invitational with an OVC-best score of 4,977 points. That currently ranks him No. 30 in the country.

The senior from Chicago notably won the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best and track-record time of 8.48 (No. 4 in the OVC) and the high jump with a meet-record mark of 6-6 (No. 5 in the OVC).

Reed is the defending OVC champion in the indoor heptathlon and the outdoor decathlon.

The Colonels return to action this weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington and the Camel City Elite in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
