Eastern Baseball Hosts Western On Tuesday

RICHMOND, Ky. –
In the baseball version of the Battle of the Bluegrass, Eastern Kentucky will host Western Kentucky on Tuesday at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will air live on ESPN+.  EKU pop sockets will be given away while supplies last.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  WKU leads the all-time series 48-37-3.
 
-  The two teams split a pair of games last season with each team winning on the other's home field. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky is 14-10 after sweeping Tennessee-Martin at home this weekend.
 
-  In three games against UTM, the Colonels averaged 14.3 runs per game.     
 
-  The Colonels have 60 stolen bases.  That is sixth in the nation and 15 more than any other Ohio Valley Conference team.
 
-  Nick Howie is tied for second in the Ohio Valley Conference with seven home runs, second with a .505 on-base percentage, third with a .384 batting average, third with a .698 slugging percentage and tied for third with 23 RBIs.  Will Johnson leads the conference in stolen bases (17) and walks (27).  Ryland Kerr leads the OVC with 30 runs.
 
-  Kerr (22) and Howie (20) have both reached base in 20 or more straight games.
 
-  This season EKU is 10-4 at home and is now 41-24 all-time at Earle Combs Stadium.    
 
-  Freshman Jacob Ferris will start on the mound for EKU.  The right-hander is 2-2 this season with a 7.78 ERA.  He has 21 strikeouts in 19 and two-thirds innings of work.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Western Kentucky is 11-11 overall this season and 5-1 in Conference USA.  
 
-  The Hilltoppers have played three OVC teams.  WKU won two of three at home against Eastern Illinois, beat Murray State at home and lost to Austin Peay at home.
 
-  Western beat Florida International twice in a three-game series over the weekend in Miami.
 
-  Davis Sims has a team-best .356 average.  Jake Sanford leads the team in home runs (9), runs (28) and RBIs (27).
 
-  Freshman right-hander Hunter Crosby will start for Western Kentucky.  He is 1-3 this season with a 6.00 ERA.  He has six strikeouts and 10 walks in 15 innings of work.
