Baseball Host Belmont For Three Game Series, $2 Ticket Special On Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The 2019 regular season concludes for the baseball team with a three-game home series against Belmont starting on Thursday at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
The series-opener on Thursday, and game two on Friday, are both scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.  The series finale on Saturday will start at 2 p.m.
 
Friday is Senior Day at the ballpark.  The team will sign posters after the game.  Saturday is Fan Appreciation Day.  Promotional items will be given out and tickets are available for $2 if ordered online in advance. Click here to order.

The Colonels are 14-13 in OVC play this season and sit in sixth place in the conference standings.  Eastern has clinched a spot in the conference tournament and can still earn a seed as high as No. 3.  At 17-10, the Bruins are in third place and just two games out of first place.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Belmont leads the all-time series 17-9.
 
-  The Bruins swept EKU last season in Nashville and have won five straight meetings between the two teams. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky is 28-24 overall.  The Colonels won two out of three at Southeast Missouri last weekend but suffered a 9-6 loss on Tuesday against Western Carolina.
 
-  As a team, EKU is seventh in the nation in stolen bases (125) and 20th in scoring (7.5 runs per game).
 
-  Will Johnson leads the conference in stolen bases (27) and walks (49).  Nick Howie is first in the OVC with a .477 on-base percentage.  Ryland Kerr is second in the league in runs (56).
 
-  EKU has 33 stolen bases in its last 10 games.
 
-  Will Brian, a redshirt freshman left-hander, will start on Thursday.  He is 0-1 with a 4.74 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 24 and two-thirds innings.  The game two starter will be freshman righty Jacob Ferris, who is 5-4 with a 5.91 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 56 and one-third innings.  Brennan Kelly, a junior left-hander who is 3-4 with a 4.80 ERA, will start Saturday.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Belmont is 25-26 this season.  
 
-  Belmont beat Evansville, 6-4, on Tuesday.  The Bruins lost two of three in a non-conference series against Mercer last weekend.  In its most recent OVC series, Belmont lost two of three at home against Southeast Missouri (May 3-5).
 
-  The Bruins have a team batting average of .250 and no player is hitting higher than .279.
 
-  Jackson Campbell leads the squad with seven home runs and 33 RBIs, but carries a .239 average.  Devon Gardner has a team-best 33 runs scored and is second with a .273 average.
 
-  Belmont will start a trio of right-handers.  Senior Casey Queener, who has struck out 104 batters in 74 and two-thirds innings will get the ball on Thursday.  He is 4-3 with a 4.70 ERA.  Freshman Joshua South, who is 4-4 and carries a 3.76 ERA, will start Friday.  Sophomore Logan Bowen is 4-4 with a 6.18 ERA and will make his third start of the season on Saturday.
