ATLANTA, Ga. – Carrying over an eight game winning streak from last season, the Eastern Kentucky baseball team will open the 2021 season with a three-game series at No. 15 Georgia Tech starting Friday at Russ Chandler Stadium.
All three games will air live on the ACC Network Extra.
The series-opener is now scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Game two is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The series finale will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The games will be the first of the season for both teams.
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Georgia Tech leads the all-time series with Eastern Kentucky 9-0.
- The teams last met in 2002 when the Yellowjackets won a pair of games in Atlanta.
THE COLONELS
- EKU (12-2) ended the 2020 season by winning eight straight games, it was the program's longest winning streak since the 2005 team won 10 in a row.
- Junior second baseman
Daniel Harris IV was named a second team Pre-Season All-American by Collegiate Baseball, was selected as the Preseason Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year by D1Baseball.com, is on the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List and was chosen to the 2021 Preseason All-OVC team by head coaches and communications directors.

Chris Prothro, who helped South Alabama capture two conference championships, make two NCAA Regional appearances and compile a 152-104 record in five seasons as an assistant coach, was chosen as the new Eastern Kentucky head coach on Sept. 30.
- The Colonels were picked to finish sixth this year in the OVC.
- Harris led the OVC in 2020 with a .460 batting average and was tied for first with a .541 on-base percentage. He was eighth in slugging (.680) and eighth in runs (16).
- Five EKU pitchers combined to pitch a 3-hit shutout at No. 11 LSU on Feb. 21, 2020. The five hurlers combined for nine strike outs. Eastern Kentucky has won five games against top-30 teams since the start of the 2016 season.
- Right-hander
Darren Williams is scheduled to start the series-opener on the mound on Friday. The redshirt junior was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in five relief appearances last season, striking out 10 in six innings. Righty
Louis Davenport III will start game two. He was 2-0 with a 4.20 ERA and 17 strike outs in 15 innings last season. Davenport started once and made four relief appearances in 2020. Left-hander
Jake Lewis will get the ball for game three. The junior posted a 2-1 record with a 7.71 ERA last season.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Georgia Tech had an 11-5 record last season. The Yellowjackets won two of three against Virginia Tech in their only Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) series.
- First baseman Drew Compton, a 2020 Freshman All-American, is the top returning hitter from the 2020 season. He was second on the team with a .321 average to go along with three home runs, 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
- Shortstop Luke Waddell, a second team Preseason All-American by D1Baseball.com, batted .300 last year with 14 runs scored and nine driven in.
- Georgia Tech will start two left-handers in the three-game series. Lefty Brant Hurter is scheduled to start game one. Hurter did not play last season due to an injury. Andy Archer, a redshirt junior right-hander, will start game two. He went 0-0 with a 4.22 ERA in 2020, striking out 16 batters in 10 and two-thirds innings. Redshirt sophomore lefty Sam Crawford is scheduled to begin the third game. He was 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA in three relief appearances last season.
