MOREHEAD, Ky. – Riding a two-game winning streak, Eastern Kentucky will open Ohio Valley Conference play on Friday at Morehead State.
 
The series opener is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will air live on ESPN+.  The two teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series 109-103-1. 
 
-  The two teams were about to begin a three-game series in Richmond on March 13, 2020 when the first shutdown due to COVID-19 occurred. 
 
-  The most recent meeting between the two teams took place on May 24, 2019 at the OVC Tournament in Marion, Illinois.  After beating the Eagles to open the tournament on May 22, the Colonels fell 11-3 in second meeting. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (4-7) is coming off a 2-1 victory at home against Marshall on Tuesday.  Coupled with Saturday's 9-7 win at East Tennessee, the Colonels are riding a two-game winning streak.
 
-  Caleb Upshaw hit a game tying home run in the bottom of the first and drove in both of Eastern's runs against Marshall.  In his last two games, the right fielder/DH is 5-for-8 with a walk, a double, two home runs, three runs and four RBIs.
 
-  Six Eastern Kentucky relievers combined to pitch seven scoreless innings against Marshall.  The group allowed two hits and four walks while striking out nine.
 
-  Three of EKU's last four games have been decided by one run.
 
-  Redshirt junior right-hander Darren Williams gets the start in Friday's series opener.  He is 0-3 this season with a 9.28 ERA.  Junior left-hander Jake Lewis will get the ball for game two.  He is coming off a quality start at East Tennessee where he struck out a career-high six in six and one-third innings.  Lewis is 0-1 with a 4.85 ERA.  Junior Louis Davenport III will start the final game of the series at Morehead State.  He is 1-0 with a 4.97 ERA and 16 strike outs in 12 and two-thirds innings.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Morehead State enters the weekend at 5-6 overall.  The Eagles have won three straight and four of their last five, including a victory over No. 4 Louisville.  MSU took two of three from Marshall over the weekend and beat Ohio, 12-9, on Tuesday.  
 
-  Morehead State's offense is powered by the duo of first baseman Jackson Feltner and catcher Jack Gardner.  Feltner is hitting .360 with three runs and six RBIs.  Gardner is batting .343 and leads the team in runs (10), RBIs (10) and home runs (3).  
 
-  The rest of the team – without Feltner and Gardner – is hitting a combined .175 on the season.
 
-  Morehead State's pitching rotation features three right-handers.  Jason Goe is 0-3 with a 3.68 ERA and 16 strike outs in 14 and two-thirds innings.  Luke Helton is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA.  He has struck out 12 in 12 innings of work.  Matt Bettio is 0-1 with a 10.12 ERA.  He has walked eight and struck out eight in eight innings this season.
