Colonel Baseball Takes To The Road For OVC Series

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. –
Eastern Kentucky University's baseball team will play three Ohio Valley Conference games at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville this weekend.
 
The teams will play a single game on Friday at 5 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m.  Saturday's doubleheader will air live on ESPN+.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series 20-10. 
 
-  The teams last met March 29-31, 2019 in Edwardsville.  EKU won two of the three contests. 
 
-  In six career games against SIUE, Daniel Harris IV has hit .292 with five runs, one home run and seven RBIs.  Charlie Ludwick has hit .375 with a home run, six RBIs and three runs in three games against the Cougars. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (8-12, 3-3 OVC) evened its OVC record by winning two of three at home against Tennessee-Martin last weekend.  The Colonels dropped a pair of midweek games to No. 9 Tennessee and Dayton this week.
 
-  Harris went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs on Wednesday against Dayton.  He hit a 3-run home run in the first inning.
 
-  Richmond native Bryce Travis and Brandenburg native Will Brian have combined to make eight straight appearances without allowing a run, spanning a total of 13 innings.  Travis is 2-0 this season with a 1.72 ERA and 20 strike outs in 15 and two-thirds innings.  Brian is 1-0 with an OVC-best four saves.  He has a 0.64 ERA and 20 strike outs in 14 innings.
 
-  Right fielder/designated hitter Caleb Upshaw hit home runs against No. 9 Tennessee and Dayton this week.  For the season he is batting .286 with 15 runs scored, five home runs and a team-best 19 RBIs.
 
-  Junior Louis Davenport III will start the opening game of the series.  He is 2-1 with a 5.09 ERA and 37 strike outs in 23 innings.  His is coming off a career-best 11 strike out performance against UT Martin.  Junior left-hander Jake Lewis will get the ball for game two.  He is 0-2 with a 5.23 ERA and had a quality start last weekend against the Skyhawks, going six innings and allowing one run on three hits with a career-high eight strike outs.  Redshirt junior right-hander Darren Williams will start the final game.  He is 0-4 this season with a 7.06 ERA.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  SIUE is 8-9 this season with a 2-4 mark in OVC play.  The Cougars lost two of three at Belmont over the weekend and then fell 6-1 at Saint Louis on Wednesday.  In its other conference series this season, SIU Edwardsville lost two of three at home against Southeast Missouri.  
 
-  Catcher John Stallcup has a team-best .379 batting average.  Center fielder Brett Johnson is hitting .233 and leads the Cougars with 11 runs scored.  Second baseman Connor Kiffer has a team-high 12 RBIs while hitting .263.
 
-  Braydon Bone has made six appearances out of the bull pen and has not allowed a run in six innings.  He has a 1-0 record and a team-high two saves.  
 
-  Left-hander David Llorens is set to take the mound for game one of the series.  He is 2-2 with a 5.79 ERA on the season.  Right-hander Noah Matheny is scheduled to start game two of the series.  He is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA.  Lefty Kaid Karnes will start the series finale.  He is 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA.
