RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University track and field team will host the inaugural
Rick Erdmann Twilight April 16-17 at Tom Samuels Track.

It is EKU's first home track and field meet since 2012.

Cory Erdmann said. "What we conceived as a 4-5 team meet has turned into a meet that will host student-athletes from nearly twenty Division-I schools and will offer some of the best competition in the country. Competitors are coming to Richmond to chase NCAA qualification standards, Olympic Trials standards and Olympic standards, so it should be a fun couple of days."

Action on Friday, April 16, will get underway at 11:00 a.m. ET and will wrap up with the men's and women's steeplechase around 10 p.m. ET.

The meet will continue on Saturday, April 17, at 6 p.m. ET and will end with the 4x400-meter relays around 9:30 p.m. ET.

Twenty schools are expected to be represented at the meet, including Kentucky, Furman, Butler, Oklahoma State, Louisville, West Virginia, Northeastern, Eastern Michigan, Grand Valley State, Toledo, Loyola Chicago, Binghamton, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Bellarmine, Kennesaw State, Wright State, Miami (Ohio) and Lee (Tenn.).

A Mondo Super X 720 surface was installed at Tom Samuels Track in the summer of 2020. The state-of-the-art surface is featured throughout the facility, including the high jump, javelin and steeplechase water jump areas, and the pole vault, long jump and triple jump runways.

"This meet will allow EKU to highlight the investments that have been made on behalf of our student-athletes, from our new locker rooms to the Olympic Sports Training Center and the newly resurfaced Tom Samuels Track," Erdmann said. "The Mondo Super X surface is one of the fastest manufactured and we plan to put it to good use."
Space at the track is extremely limited due to COVID-19 protocols. Only spectators on a team pass list will be permitted, based on a capacity of 204 spectators in the venue at a time.
The
Rick Erdmann Twilight is named in honor of the legendary former EKU head coach.
Rick Erdmann won 73 Ohio Valley Conference titles in cross country / track and field during his 39 years as the head coach of the Colonels (1979-2018).
