EKU Baseball Travels To No. 2 Vanderbilt For Tuesday Game

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
The baseball team will play at No. 2 Vanderbilt on Tuesday.
 
First pitch against the Commodores is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.  The game will air live on the SEC Network Plus.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series 2-0. 
 
-  In the last meeting between the two teams, the Colonels beat No. 11 Vanderbilt, 6-5, on March 14, 2018. 
 
-  Former Colonel catcher Alex Holderbach was 2-for-5 with five RBIs in that game.  Starter Kaven Brown pitched five and one-third scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (10-20, 5-10 OVC) picked up an 8-6 win in the series finale at Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
 
-  Eastern's win over No. 7 Louisville on March 16 was the program's seventh victory over a top-30 ranked team in the last six seasons, and second this year.
 
-  Second baseman Daniel Harris IV has a 14-game hitting streak.  During that time he has hit .439 with 16 runs, three home runs and 12 RBIs.  During the streak, he has struck out just six times in 57 at bats.  He has had multi-hit games eight times, including a 4-for-5 performance with three runs and an RBI at Eastern Illinois (April 10).
 
-  John Farley has not allowed a run in his last four appearances, a stretch of six innings with three hits and eight strike outs.
 
Kendal Ewell (.356, 8 runs, 2 HR, 13 RBIs) and Caleb Upshaw (.286, 9 runs, 4 HRs, 14 RBIs) are all hot over the last 14 games.
 
-  Freshman Garret Simpson will make his second collegiate start, both of which will be against top-5 ranked Southeastern Conference teams.  The right-hander is 0-4 this season with a 5.09 ERA.  He has 16 strike outs and nine walks in 23 innings.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Vanderbilt is 25-5 overall and 9-3 in the Southeastern Conference.  The Commodores dropped two of three over the weekend at home against Georgia.  Before that series, Vandy had won nine in a row.  
 
-  First baseman Dominic Keegan leads the team with a .386 average to go along with six home runs, 29 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
 
-  Shortstop Carter Young is hitting .309 with a team-best seven home runs, 29 RBIs and 25 runs.  
 
-  Right-hander Thomas Schultz is scheduled to start for the Commodores.  He is 2-2 this season with a 5.55 ERA in seven appearances and six starts.  He has 23 strike outs and seven walks in 24 and one-third innings.
