Colonels Host Jacksonville State For OVC Baseball Series

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The baseball team will host Jacksonville State for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend.

Tickets are available for this weekend's games.
 
The series opener is slated for Friday at 6 p.m. at Earle Combs Stadium.  The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1p.m.  All three games will air live on ESPN+.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Jacksonville State leads the all-time series 32-17. 
 
-  The last time the two teams met was April 18-20, 2019.  JSU won the first two games of the series before the Colonels earned a 7-5 win in game three. 
 
-  In seven career games against the Gamecocks, Daniel Harris IV his hitting .290 with five runs and three RBIs.  Logan Thomason is batting .667 with two runs and two RBIs in three games against Jacksonville State. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (10-20, 5-10 OVC) got the tying run to second base in the ninth inning but was edged by No. 2 Vanderbilt, 6-4, on Tuesdsy.  The Colonels picked up an 8-6 win in the series finale at Eastern Illinois over the weekend.
 
-  The Eastern Kentucky pitching staff leads the Ohio Valley Conference with 286 strike outs.
 
-  Second baseman Daniel Harris IV extended his hitting streak to 15 games with an infield single in the ninth inning at No. 2 Vanderbilt.  Harris got off to a slow start to the season, hitting .095 (4-for-42) in the first 11 games.  Since then, he is batting .395 with a .430 on-base percentage.  He has recorded at least one hit in 19 of his last 20 games.
 
-  John Farley has not allowed a run in his last five appearances, a stretch of seven and one-third innings with four hits and nine strike outs.
 
-  Kendal Ewell (.367, 9 runs, 2 HR, 13 RBIs) and Caleb Upshaw (.295, 10 runs, 5 HRs, 15 RBIs) are hot over the last 15 games.
 
-  Redshirt junior right-hander Darren Williams will start Friday night's series opener.  He is 1-5 this season with a 5.62 ERA and 44 strike outs in 41 and two-thirds innings.  Junior left-hander Jake Lewis will get the ball for game two of the series.  He is 1-4 with a 7.12 ERA.  Junior Louis Davenport III will start finale.  He is 2-1 with a 7.98 ERA and 47 strike outs in 29 and one-third innings. 
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Jacksonville State is 16-15 overall and 7-5 against OVC teams.  The Gamecocks won two of three at Belmont last weekend and beat Kennesaw State, 8-4, on Tuesday.  
 
-  Catcher/designated hitter Alex Carignan has a team-best 397 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage.  Catcher Alex Webb is hitting .302 with three home runs, a team-high 29 RBIs and 18 runs scored.  
 
-  Corley Woods leads the team with five saves.  He has a 2.28 ERA and 27 strike outs in 23 and two-thirds innings.  
 
-  Right-hander Christian Edwards will get the ball for game one.  He is 4-1 with a 3.02 ERA and 56 strike outs over 44 and two-third innings.  Lefty Dylan Hathcock, who is 3-3 this season with a 4.42 ERA, will start game two of the series.  Colin Casey, a right-hander, will start game three.  He is 3-2 this season with a 3.60 ERA.
