Colonels Head To Murray State For OVC Baseball Series, Schedule Adjusted

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky will travel to Murray State for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend.
 
The series will open with a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. ET.  The game time for Saturday's series finale has not been set due to a poor weather forecast.  All three games will air live on ESPN+..
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series 64-58. 
 
-  The last time the two teams met was April 26-28, 2019.  Murray State swept the homestand, scoring 19 runs across three contests.
 
-  In seven career games against the Racers, Daniel Harris IV his hitting .333 with seven runs and six RBIs. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (13-22, 7-11 OVC) unleashed a voracious offensive attack on Tuesday against Morehead State en route to a 13-4 victory.  The Colonels also won two of three against Jacksonville State over the weekend in Richmond.
 
-  The Eastern Kentucky pitching staff leads the Ohio Valley Conference with 314 strike outs.
 
-  Second baseman Daniel Harris IV extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a three-hit performance on Tuesday against Morehead State.  Harris got off to a slow start to the season, hitting .095 (4-for-42) in the first 11 games.  Since then, he is batting .412, including a scorching .423 against OVC opponents.  Harris has recorded at least one hit in 23 of his last 24 games.
 
-  Freshman Jordan Fox picked up his first career win on Tuesday, pitching a scoreless inning and one-third.
 
-  Kendal Ewell (.357, 10 runs, 2 HR, 11 RBIs) and Charlie Ludwick (.298, 9 runs, 2 HRs, 11 RBIs) are hot over the last 15 games.
 
-  Redshirt junior right-hander Darren Williams will start Friday afternoon's series opener.  He is 1-5 this season with a 4.71 ERA and 53 strike outs in 49 and two-thirds innings.  Williams has been dominant over his past three starts, boasting 1.21 ERA and 23 strike outs in 22 and one-third innings.  Junior Louis Davenport III will start game two of the series.  He is 2-2 with a 8.02 ERA and 53 strike outs in 33 and two-third innings.  Saturday's game three starter has not been determined. 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Murray State is 18-16 overall and 9-7 against OVC teams.  The Racers dropped two of three at Belmont over the weekend before defeating Bellarmine, 10-5, on Tuesday.  
 
-  Second baseman Jordan Cozart has a team-best 12 home runs and 35 runs batted in.  Outfielder Jake Slunder is hitting .281 and is tied for a team-high with 38 hits, including 11 in the past six games.  
 
-  Jacob Pennington, who has made 10 appearances this season, has held batters to a team-low .211 batting average.  He has a 3-2 record with a 5.23 ERA and 25 strike outs in 32 and two-thirds innings.  
 
-  Freshman Jack Wennington will take the mound for the first game of Friday's doubleheader.  He is 3-3 with a 4.54 ERA and 28 strike outs in 35 and two-thirds innings this season.  Sam Gardner will get the ball for the series finale on Saturday.  He is 2-4 with a 5.97 ERA and 36 strike outs this season.  Friday's game two starter has not been determined.
