Colonels Host Midweek Matchup With In-State Foe Bellarmine On Tuesday

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky's baseball team will host Bellarmine University in a non-conference battle on Tuesday.
 
First pitch at Earle Combs Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU leads the series 13-5-1. 
 
-  The most recent meeting between the two teams took place in 2006. The Colonels defeated the Knights 18-14 in Richmond.
 
-  Tuesday's contest marks the final time the two sides will meet as non-conference opponents, as Eastern Kentucky will join the ASUN Conference next season.
 
-  EKU is undefeated at home against in-state schools this season.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU is 16-29 this season and 10-17 against conference opponents.  The Colonels have won five of their last seven games at Earle Combs Stadium. 
 
-  Eastern Kentucky second baseman Daniel Harris IV got off to a slow start to the season, hitting .095 (4-for-42) in the first 11 games.  Since then, he is batting .379 with a .431 on-base percentage and has recorded at least one hit in 30 of his last 33 games.
 
-  Senior outfielder Caleb Upshaw is batting .339 with nine runs, 14 RBIs and six extra-base hits in the past 15 games.
 
-  Freshman outfielder Kendal Ewell logged a .350 batting average with 11 runs, seven RBIs, four doubles and two home runs over his most recent 10 games.
 
-  Freshman outfielder Max Williams is hitting .318 with three runs, seven RBIs and five extra-base hits in his last six games. During that stretch he has posted a .591 slugging percentage.
 
-  The Eastern Kentucky pitching staff leads the Ohio Valley Conference with 398 strike outs.
 
-  Redshirt sophomore left-hander Will Brian has recorded seven saves this year, tied for the most in the conference.
-  Freshman southpaw Bryce Travis will get the ball for the Colonels. Travis has a 2-2 record with 27 strike outs in 25 and one-third innings. Tuesday will mark Travis' second start of the season. In his previous start against Marshall on March 9, Travis struck out three batters in two innings.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Bellarmine is is 13-30 overall and 8-16 in conference play.  The Knights come to town on the heels of a 10-4 victory against conference foe Lipscomb in Louisville on Saturday afternoon.
 
-  Senior catcher/outfielder Chris Gambert is third in the ASUN with 10 home runs this season.  On Saturday afternoon against Lipscomb, he belted two home runs and five RBIs, both season-highs.  The performance brings Gambert's total to 35 career home runs, a Bellarmine school record.
 
-  Junior outfielder Matt Higgins leads the team with a .356 batting average and 13 multi-hit games. Higgins has also tallied 18 runs and seven home runs this season.
 
-  Freshman right-hander Devin Ecklar will take the mound for Bellarmine. He is 2-1 with a 9.20 ERA and 23 strike outs in 29 and one-third innings this season.
