RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU designated hitter Caleb Upshaw and relief pitcher Will Brian earned Midwest All-Region honors from Rawlings and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

Upshaw was a first team all-region pick while Brian earned a spot on the second team.  The first and second teams included only one designated hitter and relief pitcher each.

The Midwest Region includes all NCAA Division I teams in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Upshaw led the team with a .325 batting average, 11 home runs, 48 RBIs, a .560 slugging percentage and a .401 on-base percentage.  He also scored 36 runs.  The Newnan, Georgia native ranked sixth in the OVC in total bases (112), seventh in RBIs and was tied for 10th in home runs.

Toward the end of the season, Upshaw put together a streak of reaching base in 23 straight games, the longest by a Colonel this season.  He led the team with 19 multi-hit games, including six with three hits or more, and 13 multi-RBI games.

Brian, a 5-foot-10 redshirt sophomore, led the OVC with 10 saves while compiling a 2.48 ERA and striking out 48 in 32 and two-thirds innings.  He allowed only nine runs, 26 hits and did not give up a home run.  Opponents had a .224 batting average against him.  The Brandenburg, Kentucky native led the league in games finished (22) and was tied for seventh in appearances (25).

Brian started the season by pitching three combined innings in two appearances at No. 15 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Louisville.  He did not allow a hit or a run, walked one, struck out three and earned the save in Eastern's 9-6 victory over Tech.  In a second game against Louisville later in the season, he earned the save after pitching one hitless inning with a strike out against the then seventh ranked Cardinals.
