EKU Wins Colonel Classic, Kristinsdottir Claims Individual Title

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky was the only team to shoot under par at the Colonel Classic on Tuesday, and pulled away for a 22-shot win at the University Club at Arlington.
 
EKU began the day with a nine-stroke lead over Georgia State, but a final round 2-under 286 allowed the Colonels to pull away.  Eastern Kentucky carded rounds of 293 and 299 on Monday, finishing with a 54-hole total of 878 (+14).
 
Eastern Kentucky has won six of the last eight Colonel Classics.
 
Ragnhildur Kristinsdottir claimed individual medalist honors with a 2-shot win over Emma Berlin of Georgia State.  Kristinsdottir turned in rounds of 70, 71 and 71 for a total of 212 (-4).  Berlin shot a 2-under 70 on Tuesday and finished with a 54-hole total of 214.
 
Georgia State (900) was second.  Northern Illinois (907) was third and Cleveland State (912) was fourth.
 
Elisa Orduna Shackleton improved her score each round capping the event with an even-par 72.  She tied for sixth overall with a total of 222 (+6). 
 
Rylea Marcum also posted a top-10 finish, tying for eight with a total of 223 (+7).  She fired her best round on Tuesday as well, an even-par 72.
 
Maddie Hensley (225) tied for 11th and Vilma Efraimsson (226) tied for 17th.  Efraimsson had four bridies and reached 4-under on Tuesday before finishing with a 1-under 71.
 
The course at the University Club had a par of 72 and played to 5,910 yards. 
 
The participating teams were Akron, Ball State, Bellarmine, Belmont, Butler, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, Marshall, North Alabama and Northern Illinois.  The University of Kentucky will have one participating individual.
 
Playing as individuals, Mattie Jo Neeley (228) tied for 22nd, Alice Daag (236) tied for 49th and Carlee Shoemaker (237) tied for 51st.
 
The Colonels will play in their first-ever ASUN Conference Championship on April 17-19.  The three-day event will be contested at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Georgia.
