Â
One of the pillars of the Most Exciting 40 Minutes In Sports is 3-point shooting. This edition of the Colonels set five 3-point records. The first came at in-state rival Western Kentucky. EKU knocked down a program road game record 18 three's against the Hilltoppers. It was also the most 3-pointers made by a visiting team in E.A. Diddle Arena, surpassing Louisville's total of 16. Eastern Kentucky also attempted a new single game record 51 three's against WKU.
Â
Eleven days later the Colonels demolished the mark for 3-pointers in a game, finishing with 25 against Midway on Dec. 15. It surpassed the previous record of 20, came up one short of tying the ASUN Conference record, and was three away from matching the NCAA Division I record of 28.
Â
By the end of the year, this team had established new records for 3-pointers made and 3-point attempts in a season. EKU broke the season record of 327 three-pointers when
Michael Moreno knocked down a three with 1:06 left against Central Arkansas on Feb. 19. The previous record was set in 2009-10. The 2021-22 team finished with 363 made three's. This squad also now holds the program record for 3-point attempts in a season. The Colonels put up 1,029 attempts from deep. The previous mark was 865 set in 2012-13.
Â
When Eastern Kentucky beat Bellarmine on Feb. 26, they gave Hamilton his 41st home court win. That is a new record for an EKU head coach in his first four seasons.
Â
In addition to setting a number of 3-point records, the Colonels were among the conference and national leaders in 3-pointers as well. EKU was first in the ASUN, and third in the nation, in 3-pointers per game (11.71). Eastern Kentucky was fourth in the country in 3-pointers made (363) and third in 3-pointers attempted (1,029). Both were tops in the league as well.
