ATLANTA – Eastern Kentucky University All-American
Ahmed Jaziri has been voted the ASUN Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer for the 2022 outdoor season, the league announced on Friday.
Jaziri scored 20 points at the ASUN Outdoor Championships last weekend, winning gold medals in the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters. His winning 1,500 meters time of 3:45.27 is the third fastest in EKU history.
The native of Rades, Tunisia owns the No. 1 steeplechase time in the entire country this season – 8:24.33. He ran that time on April 29 at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational. He defeated four Olympians on his way to victory in the race. The time puts Jaziri at No. 23 on the NCAA's all-time steeplechase list, and it is the fastest steeplechase time by an NCAA athlete since 2015.
Jaziri will race the steeplechase at the NCAA East Prelims on May on 27 at 5:40 p.m. in Bloomington, Indiana.
He earned All-America honors last year after finishing 10
th in the steeplechase finals at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
