ATLANTA – Eastern Kentucky University's Ahmed Jaziri was named the ASUN Male Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, while Ahmed Sayf Kadri was named the ASUN Male Co-Freshman of the Week.

Jaziri earned Male Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Stanford's prestigious Payton Jordan Invitational on Friday night in California. The native of Rades, Tunisia delivered a devastating kick over the final 150 meters, beating four Olympians on his way to victory.

Jaziri's winning time of 8:24.33 is the fastest in the NCAA this season, and it shattered his previous school record (8:32.9) by more than eight seconds. It is the fastest steeplechase time by a collegiate athlete since Stanley Kebenei of Arkansas ran 8:23.9 in 2015.

Sayf Kadri won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Louisville's Clark Wood Invitational on Saturday, clocking a personal-best and facility-record time of 8:57.59. That time ranks No. 4 in the ASUN and No. 49 in the NCAA East Region. It is the fourth fastest steeplechase time by a freshman in the East Region.

It is the first ASUN Freshman of the Week award for the native of Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia.

He shared this week's honor with Liberty jumper Kennedy Sauder.

Jaziri, Sayf Kadri, and the rest of the Colonels have this weekend off before competing at the ASUN Outdoor Championships May 12-14 in Jacksonville, Florida.
