RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University track and field student-athletes Madison Fleming and Griffin Staude will represent the Colonels at the 2022 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships this week at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Fleming, a rising sophomore from Atlanta, will compete in the first round of the women's 100-meter hurdles on Friday, June 24 at 4:50 p.m. ET.

The top-two finishers from both of their respective races will earn a spot on the U.S. team at the U20 World Outdoor Championships, to be held August 1-6 in Cali, Colombia.

Staude was named to the 2021 ASUN All-Freshman Team for cross country. He finished 31st at the conference championship with an 8K time of 25:26.2. He then competed at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships, covering the 10K course in a time of 31:40.5

A graduate of Western Hills High School in Frankfort, Staude ran 8:29.11 for 3,000 meters during the indoor season. He then clocked a personal-best 14:37.02 in the 5,000 meters at the Duke Invitational in April.

Fleming won ASUN silver in the women's indoor 60-meter hurdles (8.46) and outdoor 100-meter hurdles (13.53) this season.

Her 100-meter hurdles time of 13.53 put her at No. 2 all-time at EKU, behind only Olympian Jackie Humphrey (12.83).

Fleming qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the 100-meter hurdles in May, where she finished 30th overall and third among all freshmen.
