CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – After a regular season which saw EKU women's basketball soar to an 18-13 (11-7 ASUN) record, its most wins in a single season in over seven years, the No. 5 seeded Colonels begin the ASUN Conference Women's Basketball Championship with a date against No. 4 seeded Austin Peay on Sunday, March 5 at the Winfield Dunn Center.
EKU's has now earned back-to-back quarterfinals appearances in the ASUN Championship in as many seasons as a member institution.
Sunday's ASUN quarterfinal matchup is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+ or 92.5 WEKY with Wes Chandler on the call. Fans making the drive to Clarksville can purchase tickets on the
Govs' website.
Greg Todd's squad looks to avenge an 82-69 loss to APSU earlier in the season on EKU's home floor, its first meeting against the Govs in over two seasons since both teams moved to the ASUN from the OVC, renewing a 49-year-old rivalry.
Antwainette Walker led the Colonels last time out against Austin Peay, recording a career-high 33 points on 13-of-21 shooting. Her performance was good enough to earn her first ASUN Newcomer of the Week honors announced days later, sparking her ASUN Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-ASUN awards announced yesterday.
Despite Walker's 33 points and 11 points from
Danielle Rainey, EKU was unable to overcome APSU's offensive presence which found six Govs in double figure scoring.
With the 2023 ASUN Tournament upon us, it officially marks the beginning of postseason play and EKU's journey in March Madness. The winner of Sunday's EKU/Austin Peay matchup would go on to face the No. 1 seed FGCU in the semifinals in Fort Meyers, barring any upsets. The full ASUN Championship bracket can be found
here.
Semifinals will take place on Wednesday, March 8. The ASUN Tournament Final will be played next Saturday, March 11 at the highest remaining seed.
