Four Colonels Set To Compete At NCAA Outdoor Championships This Week

AUSTIN, Texas – Four EKU student-athletes will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships from June 7-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
 
Hakim Abouzouhir, Pedro Garcia-Palencia, and Ahmed Kadri will race in the semifinals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Wednesday at 8:02 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Garcia-Palencia is in the first heat while Abouzouhir and Kadri will race in the second heat.
 
The top five finishers from both heats, plus the next two fastest times will advance to Friday's finals.
 
The finals will be contested on Friday at 9:24 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
 
Kadri will also compete in the semifinals of the 800-meters on Wednesday at 9:14 p.m. on ESPN2. The Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia native is in the second heat.
 
The top two finishers from each heat, plus the next three fastest times will advance to Friday's finals.
 
The finals will be contested on Friday at 10:14 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
 
Joshua Moore will compete in the high jump final on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
 
Abouzouhir, Garcia-Palencia, and Kadri all finished in the top-10 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA East Preliminary to qualify for nationals. Abouzouhir finished in second place, posting a time of 8:37.78 and Kadri clocked a time of 8:40.79 to finish in fourth place. Garcia-Palencia ran a time of 8:45.79 to finish in eighth place.
 
EKU is the first team in the East Region to send three steeplechase runners to nationals since Indiana in 2012.
 
Abouzouhir owns the 11th-best steeplechase time in the entire country, posting a time of 8:36.56 at the Rick Erdmann Twilight, which is the fifth-best in school history. The Morocco native also earned a gold medal for the steeplechase at the ASUN Outdoor Championships on May 12.
 
Garcia-Palencia was the silver medalist for the steeplechase at the ASUN Outdoor Championships, posting a personal-best time of 8:40.68, which ranks No. 19 in the country.
 
Kadri became the first athlete in NCAA history to qualify for nationals in the 800-meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase during the same season. He was the bronze medalist for the steeplechase at the ASUN Outdoor Championships and he clocked an outdoor-best 800-meter time of 1:48.15 at the NCAA East Preliminary, which is the second-best in school history.
 
Moore finished in sixth place in the high jump at the NCAA East Preliminary, jumping 2.14m to qualify for nationals. The Vine Grove, Ky. product is the first EKU athlete to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump since Ken Glover in 1981. He was the silver medalist for the high jump at the ASUN Outdoor Championships, jumping a personal-best 2.15m, which is the fourth-best in school history. Moore also won the high jump at the Rick Erdmann Twilight and Jim Green Invitational.
