RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team (0-3-1) is set to begin a two-match home stand hosting Eastern Michigan (0-3-2) on Sunday afternoon at the EKU Soccer Field.
Sunday's match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with free admission to the pitch, the theme is Pups at the Pitch and fans are encouraged to bring their furry friends to receive a free bandanna courtesy of EKU Athletics Marketing. Those not able to be in attendance can view the contest on ESPN+.
The Colonels, like Eastern Michigan, are seeking their first win of the 2023 season as the non-conference slate winds down.
EKU is coming off a 2-1 loss to DePaul its last time out. Freshman winger
Ruby Dunlevy notched her second goal of the season to give the Colonels the go-ahead goal on Thursday. Her goal was assisted by junior forward
Gretta Gunn, who set the EKU program record at 10 assists in the loss.
Defender
Mackenzie Burdick totaled two shots against DePaul, her most in a single match this season. In Burdick's last three matches, the Cincinnati native has had four shot attempts, the most in a three-game stretch since October 2021.
Eastern Michigan enters Sunday's match coming off a 6-0 loss to Michigan State on the road in its last match. Through five matches, EMU's Megan Lukowski leads the squad with two goals in 277 minutes of action up front. Junior Maddie O'Farrell has struck a team-leading 18 shots, 10 of which came in the Eagles' opener against St. Bonaventure which was the fourth-most in a single game across the country this season.
Sunday's contest between EKU and EMU is the first meeting between the two programs. The Colonels are seeking their first win over a Mid-American Conference (MAC) school since the 2021 season.
