Women’s Basketball Travels to Hawaii Hilo in December

EKU’s Third Consecutive Season Playing Regular Season Games Outside the Mainland

HILO, Hawaii – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will say aloha in December with a non-conference date at Hawaii Hilo inside Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

EKU's December 11 date on the Big Island is scheduled to tip off at Midnight EST.  Fans making the trip out West can purchase tickets at the door for just $10.  Streaming options are still to-be-determined.

Last season, the Vulcans finished 13-13 overall and 10-10 in Pacific West Conference (PacWest) play.  Their schedule was highlighted by a match up against Hawaii Manoa, Hawaii's only NCAA DI institution, falling 67-39 on the road.

EKU women's basketball continues its promise to enhance the student-athlete experience, December's date in Hawaii marks the third consecutive season the Colonels have played regular season contests outside of the mainland United States.

Last season, EKU was selected for the 2023 Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska where the Colonels upset UAB, 68-64, in the opening round.  The program then advanced to the finals dropping a contest against the No. 4-ranked Utah Utes and WNBA Draftee Alyssa Pili to finish as runners-up.

In 2022-23, EKU competed in the ASUN/MAAC Challenge in Dublin, Ireland going 1-1 against the field with an 85-64 win over Rider in the tournament finale.

EKU finished last season with a 22-12 overall record and an at-large bid in the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), the program's first 20-win season since 2005 and first national postseason tournament appearance since 2013.  The Colonels advanced to the Atlantic Sun Conference semifinals and had two student-athletes named all-conference.

The Colonels will begin the 2024-25 season on Nov. 4 against ESPN's Way-Too-Early No. 7 LSU at the famous Pete Maravich Assembly Center.  The contest is schedule to be aired on the SEC's family of networks.
