RICHMOND Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University beach volleyball team will hit the road this weekend, and head to Clarksville, Tenn. to face three ASUN Conference opponents in North Alabama, Central Arkansas, and host Austin Peay at the Stacheville Bash across Friday and Saturday.
The weekend will feature EKU's first meeting of the season against UNA and UCA with those matches starting at 10 and 2:30 p.m. ET respectively.
The Maroon & White defeated the Governors in their lone previous meeting this season, 3-2, at the Grand Sands Tournament back in February, and will face them on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
The Colonels enter the weekend 6-6 on the season with after going 1-3 at the Wheeler Beach Bash earlier in the month.
Highlighting last tournament though was the No. 1 pair of
Paityn Walker and
Sarah Mitchell who went, 3-1 with wins over New Orleans, Tennessee Tech, and North Florida.
In these wins, the No. 1 pair outscored all opponents, 185-157, at the tournament and even pushed (RV) South Carolina's No. 1 pair to three sets before falling.
On the season the duo is 7-5 tied for the best record as a pair with most matches played along with
EK Lonergan and
Gabriella Armitage.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
North Alabama heads to their second-straight invitational hosted by an ASUN school after the Stetson Invitational in their last outing with an overall record of 12-4.
The Lions won three of four duals over the weekend with first-time wins over Charleston and UNCW. UNA also extended its winning streak against
Jacksonville with their fifth-straight victory over the Dolphins. The only loss came to nationally ranked Stetson.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
UCA is 3-13 on the season entering the weekend, going 1-3 last time out at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, with the lone win coming against Tusculum.
The Bears' other two wins came earlier this month against Spring Hill College (3-2) and McNeese State (3-2).
Friday's meeting will be the first between UCA and EKU.
SCOUTING THE 'GOVS
Austin Peay is 6-7 on the season and looks to snap the three-match losing streak they carry into its home tournament.
In its last meeting with EKU, the Colonels took advantage of an early 2-0 lead with wins at the No. 2 and 4 match before
EKU hammered in the third and deciding point thanks to a three-set win at the No. 5 match by
Madalyn Richardson and
Riley Cutler, 21-15, 19-21, 15-13.
