MONROE, La. – EKU's beach volleyball team closed out the ULM Beach Invitational on Saturday splitting its two matches.
 
The Colonels first fell to host Louisiana Monroe, 4-1 before bouncing back with a 5-0 sweep of Tarleton State.
 
Paityn Walker and Sarah Mitchell swept the weekend at the No. 1 spot with their two wins today being the only Colonels to earn a point against the Warhawks.
 
The duo took the match against ULM in three sets, 17-21, 21-18, 15-18.
 
Despite falling, 4-1 EKU kept it close across the board, dropping three matches that went to three sets and were decided by three points or less in the final set.
 
Against the Texans the Colonels rolled from start to finish to get the sweep.
 
At No. 1 Mitchell and Walker took the match, 24-22, 21-16 followed by EK Lonergan and Reagan Sandlin at the No. 2, 21-12, 21-16.
 
Madalyn Richardson and Riley Cutler kept it going at the No. 3 match handedly, 21-14, 21-16, with Elizabeth Fonvielle and Natalie Taggart and Rachel Mueller and Gabriella Armitage completing the sweep at No. 4 and 5.

EKU now prepares for a rematch against in-state rival Morehead State on the road next Wednesday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
