EKU Baseball Plays At Austin Peay This Weekend

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A 3-game Atlantic Sun Conference series at Austin Peay awaits Eastern Kentucky University this weekend.
 
Friday's series opener will begin at 7 p.m. ET.  Saturday's game is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.  The finale on Sunday will get underway at 2 p.m. ET.  All three games will air live on ESPN+.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (12-28, 8-10 ASUN) picked up a non-conference win at Dayton on Tuesday.  The Colonels have lost four straight conference series, but each of the past three have included a close loss that would have swung the series win to EKU.
 
DJ Sullivan hit two home runs in the win at  Dayton.  He hit a 2-run shot in the second and a solo homer in the third.  The senior outfielder finished 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs.
 
-  EKU is third in the ASUN with 81 doubles, one less than second place Stetson.

-  In their last 11 games, the Colonels are batting .288 as a team.  EKU has 15 home runs and a .395 on-base percentage during that span.
 
-  Freshman left-hander Bradley Stewart will start the opener on Friday.  He is 0-1 this season with 23 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings.  Sophomore righty Nathan Lawson will start on Saturday.  He is 4-3 and has walked only 21 in 45 innings of work.  Ryker Walton, a junior right-hander, is scheduled to start on Sunday.  He is 2-4 with 35 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Austin Peay is 24-16 overall and tied for fourth in the ASUN with an 11-7 league mark.  The Governors have won three straight conference series, taking two of three in each.  APSU beat Middle Tennessee, 16-10, on Tuesday.
 
-  Designated hitter/right-handed pitcher Lyle Miller-Green leads the team in average (.393), runs (63), home runs (23) and RBIs (64).  He leads the ASUN in slugging (.926), runs, RBIs and home runs.  He is third in on-base percentage (.512) and fourth in batting average.  Senior outfielder Clayton Gray is hitting .372 with 50 runs, 13 home runs and 53 RBIs.
 
-  Austin Peay leads the nation with a .347 team batting average, 58 points higher than any other ASUN team.  The Govs are second in the country in home runs (106) and slugging percentage (.651).
 
-  The Austin Peay pitching staff has struck out a league best 367 batters and is second in the ASUN with a .268 opponents' batting average.

-  Jacob Weaver will get the ball for Friday's game.  The junior right-hander is 2-2 with a 7.41 ERA and 66 hits allowed in 52 2/3 innings.  Andrew Devine, who is 6-0 with a 2.95 ERA is scheduled to start on Saturday.  The redshirt senior righty has struck out 60 and allowed only 36 hits in 58 innings.  Miller-Green will start on the mound in the finale.  He is 4-1 with a 7.08 ERA.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Austin Peay owns a slight edge in the all-time series, 61-59.  The Govs are 28-19 in games played in Clarksville.  The first meeting between the two programs was in 1979.  The Colonels have won two straight over APSU and three of the last four.
 
-  The two teams last met on May 24, 2023 in the ASUN Tournament.  Will King's two-out single in the bottom of the ninth brought home the winning run in a 3-2 Colonel victory in DeLand, Florida.  King finished 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.  Ambren Voitik had a 2-for-4 game with a run scored for the Govs.
