Colonels Earn Nine Medals On Final Day Of ASUN Outdoor Championships

CONWAY, Ark. – The Eastern Kentucky University track and field teams earned nine medals on the final day of the Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Central Arkansas on Saturday at the Richard Martin Jr. Track and Bill Stephens Soccer Complex.
 
The men finished in third place with 129 points while the women earned a sixth-place finish with 52 points.
 
Samuel Carter won his third career gold medal in the triple jump, leaping a personal-best 15.42m, which is the fifth-best in program history. His mark ranks No. 31 in the East Region.
 
EKU swept the podium in the 5,000 meters, as Nikodem Dworczak (14:11.86) broke the ASUN record to win gold, Mohammed Jouhari (14:20.92) earned silver, and Jackson Siddall (14:23.18) claimed bronze. Dworczak earned his second ASUN 5K gold medal of 2024, as he won gold at the 2024 ASUN Indoor Championships.
 
The Colonels finished 1-2 in the 1,500 meters, as Taha Er Raouy set the facility record with a time of 3:45.80 to earn a gold medal and Jan Badia won a silver medal with a time of 3:46.50. Joan Tapias (3:48.75) and Aniol Borras (3:49.22) scored in the 1,500 meters, as EKU scored 23 points for the event.
 
Sydney Little Light posted a 1,500-meter time of 4:22.25 to earn a silver medal. Maria Cano clocked a college-best time of 4:25.01 to finish fourth, and Bahiya El Arfaoui (4:27.20) claimed seventh.
 
Borras had an incredible finish to earn a silver medal for the 800 meters, achieving a personal-best time of 1:50.16.
 
Cano won a silver medal for the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 16:51.79.
 
Javon Adams scored in two events for the Maroon and White, posting a personal-best javelin throw of 54.54m to finish sixth and leaping a personal-best triple jump of 14.17m to finish fourth.
 
Matthew See finished seventh for the shot put with a throw of 15.68m.
 
Jake Welch ran a personal-best in the 400 meters for the second straight day with a time of 47.33 to finish in fifth place.
 
Irene Rubio Miralles recorded a college-best 800-meter time of 2:08.94 to finish sixth while Little Light (2:17.71) claimed eighth.
 
Sonia Koech clocked a personal-best 5,000-meter time of 17:27.29.
 
Next Up
The Colonels will compete at the NCAA East First Rounds on May 22-25 at the UK Outdoor Track & Field Complex in Lexington.
