ATLANTA – The Eastern Kentucky University beach volleyball team finished the 2025 regular season at the Georgia State Diggin' Duals on Saturday splitting matches against No. 18 Georgia State and UL – Monroe.
The Colonels fell, 4-1 against the nationally ranked Panthers, but bounced back with a 4-1 win of their own over the Warhawks to end the day.
"This weekend was a good way to finish our regular season," said head coach Jeff Patton. "We had a lot of tough competition and we got better as the weekend went on. I'm proud of the way we played and battled. Now we can get to work on putting our best foot forward for the conference tournament. Bella and Elpida had a great weekend especially with their win over Georgia State."
Against the Panthers,
Bella Williams &
Elpida Pitsigkoni secured the lone point for EKU, taking the 5's, 21-15, 22-20.
On the weekend, the duo went 3-1 the best record on the team across the four matches.
Against the Warhawks, EKU earned its second win of the weekend with
EK Lonergan and
Reagan Sandlin starting the match in dominant fashion winning the 4's, 21-16, 21-15.
Williams & Pitsigkoni followed in kind winning the 5's in three sets, 21-12, 19-21, 15-13 to put EKU up, 2-0 in the match.
The match was put to rest at the 3's as
Madalyn Richardson and
Riley Cutler rolled in two sets, 21-16, 21-12.
Paityn Walker and
Molly Shomock added to the lead winning the top flight in three sets, 21-14, 14-21, 15-11.
The Colonels will now prepare for the ASUN Conferenc Championship in Huntsville, Alabama beginning April 24.
