JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball sophomore guard
Liz Freihofer was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week for the third time in her career, the league announced Monday afternoon.
A native of Union, Kentucky, Freihofer averaged 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as EKU collected two road victories over North Alabama and Central Arkansas to remain perfect in conference play at 4-0 for the first time since 2002-03.
Across the two wins, Freihofer shot 13-for-22 (59.1 percent) from the field and 7-for-11 (63.6 percent) from 3-point range. Her efforts marked the 33rd and 34th double-figure scoring performances of her career, along with her third 20-point outing.
Freihofer led the comeback victory at North Alabama on Thursday, pouring in 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including a 5-for-7 clip from beyond the arc. She added eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals as the Colonels erased a 13-point halftime deficit to earn an 80-78 win.
Against the Lions, Freihofer graded as the 13
th-best player nationally on Jan. 8, receiving a 25.1 stat rating according to CBB Players and Skim Milkey on social media. The stat combines the totality of an individual performance and impact on a team's success. She is the third EKU player to grade out this season.
She followed with 10 points at Central Arkansas, shooting 3-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-4 from deep. Both of her 3-pointers came late, helping EKU secure a 64-54 victory and hand the Sugar Bears just their fourth home conference loss of the Tony Kemper era.
In the win over the Sugar Bears, Freihofer again nearly missed a double double with nine rebounds on her final ledger.
Monday's recognition marks the 12th Atlantic Sun Conference weekly honor of Freihofer's career and her third ASUN Player of the Week award in two seasons wearing the maroon and white.
Freihofer and the Colonels return to action Thursday, Jan. 15, hosting Lipscomb inside Baptist Health Arena. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET, with tickets available starting at just $5
online or at the door.
