RICHMOND, Ky. – It is championship season for the Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's track and field teams as the Colonels are set to compete at the ASUN Indoor Track and Field Championships in Louisville, from Friday to Saturday.
40 student-athletes will represent the Colonels at the championships being held in Louisville at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
Leading the way for the women will be
Edna Chelulei and
Kristan Simmons, both of whom have broken school records this season and earned ASUN Performer of the Week Honors.
Chelulei, who broke the school records in the 3,000m and 5,000m this season, will run in the mile.
Simmons, who has broken the EKU record in the weight throw twice this season, will compete in that event, looking for gold, while also competing in the shot put.
Also looking to make her mark in the shot put will be teammate
Lariah Wooden, who took first in the event at last season's conference championships.
For the men,
Taha Er Raouy and
Bradley Giblin lead the way on the track, with Er Raouy running in the 3,000m, an event in which he broke the school record back in December, in a time of 7:40.56.
Giblin will race in the mile, having previously become just the third Colonel to ever run a sub-4-minute mile earlier this season at the PNC Lenny Lyles Classic also in Louisville.
In the field for the men, Daroyce Flemmons has his eyes set on breaking the EKU record in the men's weight throw for the third time this indoor season, while teammate Matt See will look to reach the podium again in the shot put after taking second in 2025.
A full breakdown of all EKU entries can be found below.
