LOUISVILLE, Ky. – It was a strong opening day at the ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships for Eastern Kentucky University, with two school records and a total of eight medals won between the men's and women's programs.
At the end of day one, both the men's and women's teams are in second place in their respective standings.
Through five scored events, the men have 48 points, trailing only Central Arkansas, which has 71.
The women have accrued 33 points through six scored events, also trailing UCA at 63 points.
In a day of top finishes, the men's distance medley relay team of
Kristian Imroth,
Hamish Murray,
Bradley Giblin, and
Keeton Thornsberry turned in the performance of the day with a program record and championship meet record time of 9:43.69 to take first.
It was double gold in the 5,000m for EKU as
Brighter Jepchumba won on the women's side in a time of 16:29.58, while
Miguel Baidal and
Brian Kimutai finished first and second for the men in times of 14:00.05 and 14:03.08, respectively.
Also earning points for the men of EKU in the 5,000m were
Cosmas Kiprop,
Tomas Vega, and
Ty Blair, who finished fourth, fifth, and eighth.
In the field,
Kristan Simmons broke her own record in the women's weight throw with a mark of 18.24m to claim second, while
Amya Livingston and
Lariah Wooden took fourth and seventh to earn points.
On the men's side,
Daroyce Flemons took fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 18.58m, with Matt See and
JJ Love earning points finishing sixth and seventh.
