Colonels Battle but Fall to FIU and North Florida

RICHMOND, Ky. — The Eastern Kentucky University beach volleyball team lost both matches Saturday, falling 4-1 to Florida International and 4-1 to North Florida.

Elpida Pitsigkoni and Gabriella Armitage earned the Colonels'only win against FIU, taking the first set 21-17 and clinching the match with a 15-12 victory in the third set.

Despite the final score, EKU pushed Florida International throughout the lineup, forcing three flights to a third set.

Carlyn Mcallister and Sutton Sales nearly added a second point for the Colonels, winning the second set 21-16 before falling 17-15 in the third.

Against North Florida, Eastern Kentucky picked up a standout win in the first flight.

Molly Shomock and Riley Cutler rallied after dropping the opening set 21-9, winning the next two sets 21-18 and 15-12 against a pair of first-team All-ASUN selections and ASUN champions.

EKU returns to action Wednesday at the Day of the Duals in Atlanta, where the Colonels are scheduled to play in three matches.
