Colonel Baseball Suffers 19-1 Loss To Central Michigan

CMU's Ty Dunham throws 7.0 inn

Bradenton, Fla. - Central Michigan's Ty Dunham threw 7.0 shutout innings on Thursday as the Chippewas defeated Eastern Kentucky 19-1 at Academy Park.

CMU led 3-0 through three innings, before exploding for five runs in the fourth off EKU starter Brian Engle. Bryan Mitzel provided the fireworks with a three-run homer to make it an 8-0 contest. Engle (0-1) lasted just 3.2 innings, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) and six walks.

The Chippewas added four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to blow the game wide open. Troy Moratti and Jim Geldhof led the way for CMU with five RBI a piece. Moratti went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored four runs in the win.

The Colonels committed five errors and grounded into three inning-ending double plays in the loss, including the third inning when the team loaded the bases with three-consecutive walks. Dunham (1-1) scattered four hits over his 7.0 innings of work and recorded five strikeouts en route to his first win of the year.

Senior Will Whisenant led the team with two hits and drove in the Colonels' only run of the game in the eighth inning when his single scored junior Brett Bolger. Freshman Clint Seymour registered his first collegiate hit in the losing effort.

Eastern returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it takes on Bowling Green State at 2:30 p.m.
