LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Senior Chris O'Dell went 3-for-4 including a two-run home run but the Eastern Kentucky baseball team could not overcome a seven-run Louisville fifth, falling to the Cardinals 14-4 tonight at Patterson Stadium.
The Colonels (11-10, 1-1) fell behind 3-0 after three innings, but closed the gap to 3-1 in the fifth when freshman Aaron Barrows came home on a wild pitch from Louisville starting pitcher Jake Smith.
But Louisville (11-14, 3-0) responded in the bottom of the inning, striking for seven runs highlighted by a two-run triple from left fielder Isaiah Howes.
The Cardinals tacked on four more runs in the sixth to break the game open. Eastern scored two in the eighth on the O'Dell home run and one more in the ninth on an RBI single from senior Brett Bolger.
The Colonels continue OVC play this weekend, hosting Tennessee Tech for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader Saturday, April 1 at 12 p.m.
