RICHMOND, Ky. – The Louisville Cardinals scored five runs in the fourth and six in the fifth on the way to a 20-3 victory over the Eastern Kentucky baseball team today at Turkey Hughes Field.
The Cardinals (5-8) took a quick 1-0 lead as Nick Haley walked to leadoff the game, and came around to score one out later on an RBI double from Logan Johnson.
The scored stayed 1-0 until the fourth when the Cardinals put five runs on the board, highlighted by a two-run single from Pete Rodriguez.
The Colonels (4-4) closed the deficit to 6-1 with a run in the bottom of the inning. Senior Brett Bolger led off with a single and then came around to score on a two-out RBI single from junior Tony Wells.
But Louisville put the game away with six runs in the fifth, including RBI hits from Derrick Alfonso, Haley, Johnson and Daniel Burton.
The Colonels scored two runs in the eighth highlighted by an RBI single from freshman Aaron Barrows.
B.J. Rosenberg (1-2) allowed one run and four hits in 5.0 innings to pick up the victory. Senior Scott Goetz (0-1) took the loss in his second start of the season.
The Colonels are back in action tomorrow against Bellarmine at Turkey Hughes Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
