RICHMOND, Ky. – Junior Tony Wells' go-ahead two-run single highlighted a nine-run eighth as the Eastern Kentucky baseball team overcame an eight-run deficit to defeat the Bellarmine Knights, 18-14, at Turkey Hughes Field today.

Wells lined a two-run single into left to give the Colonels (5-4) a 15-13 lead and junior Chris O'Dell capped the inning a batter later with a three-run homer to left, one of Eastern's seven home runs. Sophomore Joe Oliver began the rally, which saw the Colonels send 13 men to the plate, with his first career homer, a two-run blast to left center.

The Knights (5-5, 2-2) started quickly, taking a 1-0 lead in the second. Cameron Howell led off with a double and came around to score on an RBI single from Shannon Wheeler.

Eastern tied it in the bottom of the inning on junior Charlie Yarbrough's sixth home run of the season.

Wheeler reached on a Colonel error to begin the fourth, moved to third on a fly out to center and then scored on a Brian Clark RBI single to give Bellarmine a 2-1 lead. The Knights added two more runs in the inning on an RBI groundout from Adam Chester and a Russell Farris RBI single.

The Colonels rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie it at 4 on Yarbrough's second home run of the game, a two-run shot, and solo homer from O'Dell.

But the Knights struck back for eight in the fifth to take a 12-4 lead, highlighted by a two-out grand slam from Ryan Faust.

Eastern chopped into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from Yarbrough and a two-run home run from Wells.

The Colonels pulled within three in the sixth on a Kirt Kleindienst RBI groundout and a solo home run from sophomore Lucas Waters.

Freshman David Owens allowed one run in 3.1 innings to pick up the victory and senior Greg Harper pitched the ninth to earn his second save.
