JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Junior Shawn Flora went 3-for-4 but it was not enough as Jacksonville State pounded out 15 hits on its way to a 10-5 victory over the Eastern Kentucky baseball team Sunday at Rudy Abbott Field. EKU falls to 19-17 overall and 8-6 in the OVC while the Gamecocks improve to 20-20 and 8-7.

JSU got an unearned run in the first but Eastern came back with one in the second on a sacrifice fly from freshman Matt Davis and one in the third when an error by leftfielder Garret Bass on a fly from junior Charlie Yarbrough allowed Flora to score.

JSU surged in front though with four runs in the third. The Gamecocks put the first two runners on and then tied the score on a RBI double from Jake Ball. An Allen Rose RBI groundout gave Jacksonville the lead and they tacked on two more runs before the inning was over to take a 5-2 lead to the fourth.

Eastern cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth on a home run down the leftfield line from sophomore Lucas Waters, his second of the season.

But the Gamecocks picked up a run in the bottom of the inning on an Eric Beck RBI double and added two more in the sixth on a sacrifice fly and another RBI groundout from Rose.

EKU would strike for two runs in the eighth on a RBI double from junior Tyler Nix to cut the lead to 9-5 but JSU added on a run in the bottom of the inning and EKU did not threaten again.

Eastern returns to action on Tuesday, April 25, hosting Kentucky State at 3 p.m. at Turkey Hughes Field.
