RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky will face Tennessee-Martin in a match-up of Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball teams at McBrayer Arena on Wednesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. EKU enters the game with a 5-2 record and a 1-1 conference mark. UTM is 3-6 overall and 0-2 in league games. Eastern is coming off a 68-66 overtime victory against Austin Peay, while the Skyhawks have dropped four in a row, including a 65-50 loss at Morehead State on Monday.

Against Austin Peay on December 8, Eastern Kentucky built a 16-point second half lead but had to comeback from a four-point deficit to force overtime and beat the Lady Govs, 68-66, in Clarksville, Tenn. Senior Crystal Jones recorded a double-double with a game-high 24 points, including the game-winning basket with six seconds left in overtime, and 10 rebounds.

Senior Ashley Cazee scored 20 points for the Lady Colonels. LaTanya Stokes finished with seven points and a team-best 12 rebounds. Eastern out-rebounded Austin Peay 51-40.

The Lady Colonels’ overtime victory against Austin Peay extended EKU’s streak of not starting OVC play 0-2 to 15 seasons. Eastern hasn’t started conference play with consecutive losses since 1992-93. EKU has only been 0-2 in the OVC twice since the 1986-87 season, a span of 22 years.

Through the first seven games of the season, the Lady Colonels are led in scoring by senior guards Cazee (15.4), Crystal Jones (14.6) and Niki Avery (12.3). Crystal Jones (7.0), sophomore Shavonne Jones (6.3) and freshman Lindsey Waters (6.0) are EKU’s leading rebounders.

In EKU’s first two OVC games of the season, Crystal Jones is averaging 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

Eastern leads the OVC in rebounding, and ranks second in scoring, scoring margin and free throw percentage.

After opening the season with three wins in their first five games, the Skyhawks have dropped four in a row, including two conference games. Tennessee-Martin’s three wins have come at home against Lipscomb, Central Arkansas and Saint Louis. Martin is 0-3 on the road this season.

On Monday, UTM lost 65-50 at Morehead State. Senior forward Crystal Fuller led the Skyhawks with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Fuller and Jennifer Angler contributed 25 of Tennessee-Martin’s 50 points in the game.

Morehead State made 45.3 percent of its shots from the field and 52.9 percent from three-point range against the Skyhawks.

For the season, Fuller leads the team in both scoring and rebounding. She averages a double-double with 15.3 points and 10 rebounds per game. She has made 52.5 percent of her shot attempts. Phyllisha Mitchell is averaging 11.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

As a team, Tennessee-Martin averages 61.2 points per game and but has not reached the 60-point plateau in its last four games. The Skyhawk defense is allowing only 66.2 points per game, however opponents are shooting 43.4 percent from the field.
