Baseball Falls To Austin Peay 9-2 In Regular Season Finale; Will Face Samford In Opening Round Of 2007 O'Reilly OVC Tournament

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore Dylan McMaine went 1-for-4 with an RBI but it wasn't enough as Austin Peay scored five runs in the third inning on its way to a 9-2 victory over the Eastern Kentucky baseball team in both squads regular season finale on Saturday at Raymond C. Hand Park. The Colonels will enter the 2007 O'Reilly OVC Tournament as the fifth-seed and will take on fourth-seeded Samford in the tournament's opening game on Wednesday in Paducah, Ky. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. EST. With the loss, Eastern finishes the regular season with a record of 23-27-1 overall and 12-12 in the OVC.

Austin Peay (36-20, 19-8), who clinched the OVC regular season title with the victory, jumped on top with two runs in the first off EKU starter Chris Grider on an RBI single from Tyler Farrar and a Colonel error on an APSU double steal.

The Governors put the game away with five runs in the third highlighted by a three-run double from catcher Matt Smith.

Eastern got on the board in the seventh on an RBI single from McMaine and then added a run in the ninth on a run-scoring groundout from sophomore Matt Davis. Grider (6-4) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 2.1 innings of work.

Ryan Mantooth (7-3) picked up the win for APSU, allowing just one run on four hits in 7.0 innings.
