Baseball Falls To Louisville, 8-1

Colonels drop final non-confer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Matt Davis went 2-for-4 with an RBI but it wasn't enough as Louisville used a six-run fourth on its way to 8-1 victory over the Eastern Kentucky baseball team on Wednesday night at Patterson Stadium. Eastern falls to 19-22-1 overall with the loss while the Cardinals improve to 31-13.

The Cardinals jumped on top in with two runs in the third. Logan Johnson doubled to lead off, moved to third on a Colonel error and then came home on a sacrifice fly by Isaiah Howes. Chris Dominguez followed with an RBI triple to make it 2-0.

Eastern got a run back in the fourth as junior Lucas Waters led off with a single, moved to third on a wild pitch and a single from senior Tony Wells, and then came home on a Davis RBI single. The Colonels loaded the bases later in the inning but senior Shawn Flora grounded out to end the threat.

Louisville blew the game open with six runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Cardinals loaded the bases with one out for Howes, who drilled a two-run single. Dominguez then followed with a run-scoring single to make it 5-1.

UL then loaded the bases again later in the inning and EKU freshman reliever Jim Clancy then hit Pete Rodriguez to force in a run. The final two runs of the inning came home on a fielder's choice and a double steal.

Freshman Chris Hord (1-4) took the loss, allowing an earned run in 3.0 innings of work. Gavin Logsdon (1-0) earned the victory as he gave up just one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Eastern plays its final home series of the 2007 season this weekend, hosting OVC leader Southeast Missouri.
