Game Notes

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will look to end its two-game losing skid on Tuesday when the Lady Colonels face Wright State. Tip-off at McBrayer Arena on the EKU campus is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Eastern has dropped it last two games after starting the season with a pair of wins. The Raiders are 0-1 after playing their first game on Saturday.

In an effort to help Eastern’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) collect canned food goods for the Richmond Salvation Army and the Kentucky Harvest, fans are asked to bring canned food to Tuesday’s game. SAAC representatives will be collecting the food at each entrance.

The Lady Colonels began the season with wins over Ohio Valley and Chicago State. Since then, EKU has lost to 12th-ranked Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky. Wright State’s season did not get underway until Saturday. The Raiders lost on the road to Evansville, 63-59.

On Sunday, Eastern Kentucky took a two-point lead late in the first half, but Western Kentucky answered with a 25-2 run on its way to an 80-54 win today at McBrayer Arena. Arnika Brown led the Lady Toppers with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Freshman Kayla Drake's 21 points led the Lady Colonels.

Junior Colette Cole recorded her first career double-double for Eastern, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds, both of which were career-bests. Sophomore Cherie White posted 10 points and four rebounds.

EKU grabbed 23 offensive boards due in large part to connecting on only 27.1 percent of its shots from the field. The Lady Colonels went 4-of-27 from behind the three-point arc. WKU shot 41.3 percent for the game.

Wright State committed 28 turnovers, made only two of 11 three-pointers and allowed Evansville to shoot 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from three-point range. WSU rallied back from double-digit deficits in both halves and trailed by only three with just over a minute to play, but could not get over the hump.

The Raiders shot 51.9 percent in the second half and out-rebounded Evansville 40-32 for the game. Sophomore guard LaShawna Thomas led WSU with 22 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Shey Peddy scored 13 points and had seven steals.

After facing Wright State, Eastern’s next two games will be against Ohio Valley Conference teams Murray State and Tennessee-Martin.
