RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team defeated Bradley University Sunday, 11-2, in the second game of a doubleheader. Junior outfielder Dylan McMaine led the way for the Colonels, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. In the first game of the doubleheader, the Colonels mustered only one hit and fell to Bradley, 4-0.

“Overall, I thought it was a good weekend,” head coach Elvis Dominguez said. “We battled hard against a good team from a good league, and I think it was a good test for us.”

In the second game, the Colonels scored two runs in each of the first two innings, before exploding for seven in the bottom of the third. In that inning, Junior Aaron Barrows delivered a big hit, driving a 3-2 pitch into right field and scoring two runs. That was followed by a two-run single from junior Matt Davis and an RBI double into the gap in right center from McMaine, one of the three doubles on the day for the Madison Central product. Freshmen Ryan Faidley and Jayson Langfels would each tack on RBI hits before the seven-run inning was finally complete.

Senior Michael Mulholland picked up his second win of the season, going four innings and giving up just one run on one hit. He also fanned five batters.

The Colonel bullpen also pitched well. Freshman Michael Martinez pitched the fifth, giving up one run on two hits. Sophomore Jim Clancy struck out the side in the sixth, and senior McKenzie Willoughby wrapped it up for the Colonels in the seventh without giving up a hit or a run.

Offensively, the Colonels were led by McMaine and junior Tyler Rehmel, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Davis also had a big day, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Bradley hurler Rob Scahill pitched brilliantly for the Braves, giving up just one hit to the Colonels.

“He’s a great pitcher,” Dominguez said of Scahill. “We had him on the ropes a couple of innings, but he pitched his way out it every time. We never could get comfortable against him.”

Nick Mitidiero and Colby Luttrell provided adequate offense for the Braves. Mitidiero collected three hits in four tries, while Luttrell went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kevin Sullivan also provided a solo blast in the top of the fourth.

Clint Seymour picked up the only hit of the game for the Colonels.

Sophomore Colby Brown took the loss for the Colonels in that game, going 4.1 innings and giving up three earned runs on seven hits. Sophomore Chris Hord came in for Brown in the fifth and finished out the game for the Colonels without allowing a hit or a run.

The Baseball Colonels return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
