RICHMOND, Ky. – In a match-up of unbeaten Ohio Valley Conference women’s tennis teams, Eastern Kentucky beat Murray State, 6-1, Saturday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center. The Colonels (13-5, 5-0 OVC) won the doubles point and five of the six singles matches. The Racers (10-4, 4-1 OVC) were victims of three, three-set losses.

“The best part of our win today is that our girls seem to be enjoying the high pressure matches,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said.

EKU’s wins by Svetlana Pimenova and Alexandra Sitnikova at No. 1 doubles, and Meredith Giles and Myriem Mhirit at No. 3 doubles secured the doubles point for the Colonels.

In singles play, Eastern edged Murray State in three, three-set matches. At No. 1 singles, Pimenova clipped Angela McGahee, 6-4, 2-6 and 7-6. At No. 2 singles, Giles got by Anne Pennington 6-2, 2-6 and 6-2. Sitnikova lost the first set at No. 3 singles 6-3 but came back to defeat Lynsey Bochenek in the next two sets 6-2 and 6-0.

Anouk Faure and Mhirit earned straight set victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively. MSU’s Adriana Alvarez defeated Vera Heimeroth at No. 6 singles.
